Would You Subscribe to a Newsvine Newsletter?

advertisement

I'm not talking about what Newsvine already provides which they call e-mail alerts. I'm talking about a newsletter that will send you all kinds of news, ignored articles and an editor's picks section where I will pick a few of my favorite articles of the week to share with all of the subscribers. I will also provide the top AP stories of the week, great articles from Scott Butki's Newsviner's Picks and any updates from the Newsvine blog. To make this a little easier to understand, (like it's really that confusing) I'll put it in my personal favorite format, bullets.

So, here's the rundown/sum up:

You'll receive:

• Editor's Picks, which will be my favorite articles of the week.

• The top Newsvine articles of the week.

• Wonderful articles that were put on the back burner and then clipped to my group: Bluntly Ignored.

• The top AP stories of the week.

• Updates from the Newsvine Blog Newsvine Blog.

Here's how to apply:

It's actually very simple, all you have to do is visit my Newsvine Column find the link under the peace sign that reads "Contact this Author", click it, title the subject as "NN application", type your email address in the body, and "fire it off"! You can also E-mail me any suggestions, questions or tips about the Newsletter the same way.

So, what do you say? Will you apply? It can't hurt to try can it?

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I think I'll start mailing it out Wednesday, that always seems to be my free days.

hmmmm, I think I like making my own way around and finding things that way rather than have things pushed at me. I like setting up my watchlist to look for particular things. And I try to regularly check on my friends and look at what they are seeding and writing. Isn't that sort of what you plan to put together?

Oh...btw.. Who do I ask about seeds I've made being linked to my articles section? Is that a bug?

I'm not for sure I know what your asking. I checked out your column and you've moved your latest articles section to the left. If you move it back to the right it should show both articles and seeds in the same section. Is that what you mean?

No, some of the so called "articles" are actually just seeds. I don't know how they got into my list of articles......

Yes, good idea. It may take something like this to bring all the Groups back together again. Sorry, Brandon, I am being facetious. I hope this works for you.

Is this meant to be news or community oriented? What is its purpose and scope? How will you assure a well rounded newsletter? Will it reflect your idea of what are the best stories or will stories be selected through some algorythym or by committee? I ask all these questions because as a busy person I often wish I had a printed out version of the best on Newsvine but then who would decide what is best? What would interest me might not interest the next person. If your publication becomes to cumbersome we might as well just keep using Newsvine.com.

I hope for it to be both news and community oriented. about the whole what one person may find interesting but another won't, I hadn't thought about that. I suppose I could create a readers suggestion section where readers send in their favorite articles for the week and I place them in a special section. Does that sound like it would work?

I guess we will only know if you try it. I have never subscribed to newletters simply because if I am interested I research the real thing and if not interested I don't have time for the newsletter. What you are suggesting may interest a segment but I doubt it would have a wide following unless it carries some general but exceptional material.

This is a great idea. It could also serve as a new functionality for groups. Most interesting...
